Crimping and Curling Hair - practical

Curls and Crimping of the Hair

Curls -

Here i have experimented with my dolls head with the Elizabethan curls. Curled hair was one of the most popular hairstyles for the upper class women and is a symbol for fashionable wealth. The curls were tight, small around the face, tidy and perfectly done. From my research i have found out that the more curly and higher the women's hair is the higher status the women is. I created these curls with a curling iron and clamped the end of the hair onto the wand and twisted the wand to curl the section on top of curl instead of going down the curl to create the tightness and to stop the curl getting large and loose.

Crimping -

Here are a few examples of crimping i have done. I found this technique very simple and strait forward although a very useful skill to have when creating designs for Elizabethan hair. To create this style you section the hair into layers starting from the bottom of the head reaching to the top. I then sectioned one of the layers and begun crimping the hair from bottom to top.  From doing this i learnt that it is important to section the hair as if you don't some pieces of the hair will not be reached.
